Scott Schick
Bowling Program Builder | Pro Shop Partner, Pavlinko Pro Shop | Youth Bowling Advocate
Scott Schick's place in bowling was never supposed to become what it ultimately did.
For most of his life, bowling was recreational something he enjoyed, but not something around which he expected to build programs, operate a business, or become deeply involved in the development of other bowlers.
That changed when his daughter, Harley, began competing seriously on the junior bowling scene.
As Scott became more involved in Harley's development, he was introduced to Vinny D'Ambrosio III, and what began as a relationship centered around helping one young bowler quickly developed into something much larger.
Scott and Vinny shared a belief that young bowlers needed more than occasional lessons. They needed an environment where they could practice with purpose, compete regularly, learn the game, understand equipment, develop discipline, and grow together as a group.
That philosophy became the foundation of the Bowlernomics youth program.
Together, Scott and Vinny helped create a weekly development environment where junior bowlers could compete while learning the technical and mental sides of the sport. Scott helped provide the organization, structure, resources, and operational discipline necessary to allow Vinny to focus heavily on developing the athletes.
It became the beginning of a partnership built around two very different but complementary skill sets.
Scott describes the relationship simply:
Vinny was the chef. Scott made sure the kitchen had everything it needed.
Equipment. Products. New technology. Scheduling. Bills. Organization. Financial discipline. Whatever was required to keep the operation moving, Scott worked behind the scenes to make sure Vinny had the tools and resources necessary to do what he did best.
That partnership eventually expanded beyond youth development.
Scott and Vinny became involved in acquiring and operating the Woodbridge Pro Shop, turning their working relationship into a full-scale bowling business.
The response was immediate.
During its first year, the shop regularly experienced lines of customers despite operating only approximately 20-25 hours per week. The business generated more than $120,000 in first-year revenue, followed by approximately $100,000 in its second year, before eventually stabilizing in the $70,000-$80,000 annual range.
For roughly five years, the Woodbridge Pro Shop developed a strong customer base and became a thriving part of the local bowling community until the closing of Woodbridge Bowling Center brought the operation to an end.
That didn't end the partnership it just moved it. Scott and Vinny continue working together today under the Pavlinko Pro Shop brand, operating out of Lucky Strike in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
The experience demonstrated something important about the partnership.
Vinny brought the technical bowling knowledge, fitting, drilling, player relationships, and ability to solve problems for bowlers.
Scott brought the operational discipline that allowed those abilities to become a sustainable business.
And Scott was never afraid to be the person watching the numbers.
His philosophy was simple: pennies become dollars, and every penny matters.
That sometimes meant being the person who had to say no, control expenses, or as Scott jokes "put a leash on Vinny" when his desire to help everyone collided with the realities of running a business.
That contrast worked because Scott understood something fundamental about Vinny long before The VD3 Experience existed: Vinny genuinely cares about bowling and the people in it at a level Scott had rarely seen from anyone else in the sport.
Scott's own experience as a bowler also gave him a unique perspective on one of Vinny's less visible strengths.
Scott was never chasing a résumé filled with honor scores. His competitive high game is 279, his high series is 690, and his high average is approximately 183.
His objective when he began working with Vinny was much simpler: keep bowling.
Physical limitations were making that increasingly difficult.
Rather than forcing Scott into a textbook bowling motion, Vinny worked around what Scott could physically do. They adjusted his game so he could release the ball more cleanly, remain comfortable, and continue participating in the sport he enjoyed.
Scott saw Vinny do the same thing repeatedly for other bowlers. Older bowlers. Bowlers dealing with arthritis. Bowlers with finger problems or physical limitations. Bowlers whose bodies could no longer execute the game the way they once had.
Instead of telling them they could no longer bowl correctly, Vinny would search for another solution.
That experience shaped Scott's understanding of coaching. Elite player development matters. But sometimes great coaching means something much simpler: finding a way for someone to keep bowling.
Scott's VD3 story is therefore not defined by 300 games or tournament championships. It began with a father trying to help his daughter.
That journey led to youth-program development, business ownership, pro-shop operations, years of partnership with Vinny, and a front-row seat to the development of countless bowlers a partnership that is still active today.
Scott helped create the infrastructure around the coaching. He helped turn ideas into programs. He helped turn bowling knowledge into a business. And he continues to help create environments where young bowlers become competitors.
Scott's contribution represents an important truth behind every successful coach, athlete, program, or organization: someone has to build the structure that allows the talent to flourish. That's exactly what Scott continues to do for Vinny and The VD3 Experience today.

Scott on Vinny
“One of Vinny's strengths is keeping people bowling. If age or physical limitations change what someone can do, he'll find another way for them to get through the ball cleanly and stay in the game.”
